Xinyi Liu is an accomplished flutist who began her musical journey in 2007 at the Xiamen School of Music. With the school orchestra, she had the opportunity to perform in Australia, Taiwan and throughout China. In 2019, She was admitted into the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing where she studied with Professor Zhaorong Chen. She participated in the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble as the principal flute player and piccolo player. She performed in solo and ensemble works, competitions and more than 20 masterclasses at the National Center for the Performing Arts, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Shanxi Grand Theatre, Shenyang Conservatory of Music among other venues. Upon graduating, she won the honor of outstanding graduate of Beijing.
In 2023, Xinyi received a scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Professor Linda Chesis. As the principal flutist and piccolo player, she performed with the MSM Symphony Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra at venues such as Aaron Davis Hall, Neidorff-Karpati Hall, and Greenfield Hall. Additionally, she received guidance in chamber music from saxophone professor Paul Cohen, horn professor David Jolley, and violin professor Chloe Kiffer.
In 2025, She took the DMA entrance auditions at seven universities and received unanimous recognition, obtaining offers, generous scholarships and three teaching assistant positions. She chose to attend the University of Washington, studying with Professor Donna Shin. She will also serve as a teaching assistant of wind instruments and a flute instructor at the university.
Xinyi has received guidance from over thirty world-renowned flute players and flute professors, including Carol Wincenc, Robert Langevin, Demarre McGill, Ransom Wilson, Paul Edmund-Davies, Bonita Boyd, Nicola Mazzanti
Apart from music, she enjoys cooking, sewing, painting, photography and traveling. She has many hobbies and is willing to try new things.
